The Community

Nagpur is in the state of Maharashtra, has population of almost 3 million, and has more than 350 slums, where 30% of the people live.

The Program

The majority of the clients in this program are women, who use loans to help establish and promote growth of micro businesses like dressmaking, small retail shops and bakeries. Before a group loan is given, each business is examined to assess the capacity of the borrower, the size of the market and other key elements of the business plan.

CDS was established in 1988 and registered with the Government of India as a non-profit service organization. It has grown from serving 8 microfinance clients in 1988 to more than 5,000 currently. CDS’ mission is to provide microloans, basic business training and community-based support to the poor so that they may start and expand small businesses to support their families.

This program seeks to support 600 continuing clients, 325 new clients, 30 new Self-Help Groups, 48 training workshops, and 1,920 SHG meetings, creating 650 jobs. Please join us in praying for these needs.
