Corine's Story

When a Five Talents Savings Group program started in Corine’s village in Burundi, her husband was at first hesitant about her joining. After her insistence though, he agreed, and she learned how to read and write and started her first business selling palm oil.

Soon after, she lost her husband due to violent conflict in her village, leaving her a single parent to their eight children. Fortunately, she didn’t give up hope, and her Savings Group became a source of comfort and support in her grief.

Now, Corine is thriving, and she not only can provide for her and her children’s present needs by now being able to feed them and pay their school fees, she’s also investing in their future by buying plots of land for them. She says, “When I die, I do not want my children to say that their mother was worthless.”

Watch the video to hear her share her story of bravery, resilience, and hope.
