“The grief I started with is completely different from the joy I got from it… Lord, I have truly seen Your goodness. You lift a person from humiliation and seat them among the honored." - Aline
Three months after Aline and Charles’ wedding, Charles developed a severe mental illness that made it difficult to provide for them and alienated them from family and friends. Aline tried to cultivate a small plot of land for sustenance, but Charles would uproot the crops in a rage. They were in constant conflict and developed a reputation among their neighbors that led to isolation.
The couple fell into such extreme poverty that Aline and their baby had almost nothing to eat or wear. Aline recalls a particularly painful memory where she had to rummage through the trash to find a discarded sack in which to wrap her newborn child.
Depressed, ashamed, and rejected by their community in Burundi, Aline became so overwhelmed that she considered taking her own life. But God had a plan to make Aline a tremendous blessing to her community.
On December 1, watch our video to learn how Aline, with the help of her Savings Group, began to make life better for herself, her family, and her entire community.
